Why choose me?

Choosing a private health provider is always a difficult decision. If you decide to work with me to support your rehabilitation, the advantages are:

  1. Shorter wait times, meaning you can start making progress sooner.

  2. My significant clinical experience and training means we can work together to create a rehab plan that will not only work for you, but will be enjoyable and easier to maintain.

  3. You would be choosing to work with a physiotherapist who places patients at the core of what I do.

Approach

When people think about physiotherapy, everyone has a different first thought - it could be manual therapy (such as massage) or an exercise plan.

Your journey through rehabilitation with me may include both, or neither of those, but the journey will often look something like this:

  1. A free phone call where we can briefly get to know each other, discuss the problems that you’re facing, and how I can help.

  2. At the first appointment, I’ll do a comprehensive, holistic assessment that establishes what your goals are, considering your physical and mental health (including past medical history and medications) and what barriers there are to rehabilitation.

We can then work together to make a plan that works to your strengths, and to ultimately work toward your goals.

As a part of this, we will discuss how long it is likely to take you to achieve these goals and set up timeframes for reviews.

What does a rehab plan include?

  • Activity advice (such as walking), and support with this if needed. This can mean returning to activities that you enjoy as a part of rehab, with support and adaptations.

  • Exercise advice for specific weaknesses, including supported exercise if needed.

  • Education about your health conditions and how they are impacting you at present, and how they can impact on your journey forwards.

  • Pacing advice, which could be modifying activity or exercise around your levels of pain or fatigue to get the most out of them.

  • Liaising with other medical professionals, such as your GP, if required.

  • Equipment advice, which could be to support standing, to help your overall energy levels, or to help you be more independent.

Regular follow-ups

How regular depends on the individual, and their specific needs. Generally, follow-ups would be between 1-3 times per week, with exercise or activity being supported at each session. If you are able to complete exercises independently, with carers or family, then follow-ups can be less frequent.

As a part of the follow-ups, we will also review your progress toward your goals - and adjust your plan to make it easier, harder or just different - depending on how you are finding it.
